I have been reading some really good genealogy blogs and getting great ideas about how to turn my blog into a genealogy blog. I can't wait to get started! I'm at work right now, so I don't have my information with me. I want to go through my pictures and find some good ones to post. I'm going to visit my maternal grandparents next week and I'm going to see if my grandmother has some pictures I can copy. I'll be going to the cemetery where my great grandparents are buried to get some pictures of their tombstone. I have so much I want to find out, I don't really know where to begin.
Well, better run for now. Don't want the boss to get onto me for blogging during work!

Thanks for coming to my blog. You are attacking your search with great vigor. Where were your ancestors in Texas in the 1800's? I'm in Texas also, and love the way you can find records here.
ReplyDeleteEven in the most remote towns, they have genealogy libraries and Historical Societies.
Great Place to live.
Thanks for stopping by, hummer. My husband's biological family seems to be from the Van Zandt County area. His adopted family is also from Texas, but I'm not sure exactly where yet. I also love the fact that information is pretty easy to find here in Texas. I have not gone on any genealogy expeditions other than to the Fort Worth Library. There is a whole lot of information there.
ReplyDeleteI will tell you of an unexpected gift I received at the Alamo. They have a genealogy library there as well as information on all the men who died at the Alamo. A fellow researcher on a different line than mine, told me to check some files at the Alamo. Lo and Behold. I found my husband's gr gr grandfather and mother. He was the stepbrother of Joshua Smith who died at the Alamo. All of the genealogy back to the 1790's was done to prove marriages, and relationships for inheritance of Texas Lands. I would never have found it. She had married 2 more times after my husband's ancestor. You just never know where the gems come from. : )
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome gift! I've never checked anything about the Alamo. Hmmm... I don't remember if my husband's family was living that far south, but it's worth checking into. Thanks for the tip!
